I spent some time with my wonderful Mother earlier today; she’s a total extravert and a total joy to spend time with. Back in January we enjoyed an incredible family night out at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. On the way to the Opera House we passed the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. I said to Leon (my son) we must go in there one day as that’s where your Great Grandfather starred in many roles and back in the 1930s was nick-named the King of Dury Lane! Well, today my mother was playing me some amazing music with my Grandfather singing; what an amazing voice. The piece my mother played was written by a friend of my Grandfather and as I listened I felt this amazing rush of emotion.

I thought I wish I could have seen him take the stage and share the excitement that he felt before every performance. When I was about 10 I remember being taken to Dury Lane by my Mother. The stage hand that showed us around remembered my Grandfather, the great Harry Welchman, with obvious fond memories. He said “your Grandfather would stand on that stage (it’s enormous) with a full orchestra playing and when he sang you could hear every note above the orchestra without any microphones.” I remember how amazed I felt – how could one person’s voice fill such a huge theatre and top the whole orchestra; when I listened to his voice today I could understand how – fabulous!

I left to go back to the studio where I finished processing the images for a recent wedding before getting changed to go to Tregenna Castle. Beautiful sunshine for today’s wedding. It was such fun; more details to follow later. Got back home to receive confirmation of a booking for 2011 and another request for a meet later this year for a Christmas wedding in 2011. Gave Laura the Bride to Be a call and set up a meet for later in the year for a get together.

What an amazing day full of excitement; I’m so lucky to be surrounded by such a wonderful family and to be able to share in the excitement of so many wedding day celebrations.

There are wedding venues where you can get married outside. There has to be a covered area which must be licensed with your local registration office in order for you to get married outside.

There are at least 3 wedding venues I have worked at recently, in Cornwall, that are licensed for outdoor wedding ceremonies: Tregenna Castle at St Ives, Boscundle Manor at Par near St Austell and The Rose in Vale Country House Hotel near St Agnes. In addition if you would like to get married outdoors with sea views Tregenna is the place and is close to some fabulous beaches.

The Rose in Vale is near St Agnes and there are mine workings, cliffs and sea views a short drive away. I have taken couples to locations nearby which make great wedding photography back drops.

I photographed a crazy civil partnership at Boscundle Manor. The ceremony was held outside and a marquee had been set up for the wedding guests – it worked really well and the couple were delighted which let’s face it is most important.

Can you have a wedding ceremony on a beach will be the subject of another post.

Hard to beleive how many wedding photographs have been captured so far in April and it’s not even half way through the month. Delighted to have photographed Kathryn and Sam’s wedding at the beginning of April. Lovely ceremony at St Euny Church at Redruth, I was born in Redruth, followed by a reception at Tregennna Castle Hotel, overlooking St Ives. I will be posting some images soon. Great day, got to the beach had great fun photographing the happy couple. The food was excellennt, chef certainly did everyone proud everyone on the table was very impressed, one wedding guest commented ”what a change to get decent food at a wedding”. He was from the woking area and thoroughly enjoyed his visit to Cornwall as did the other guests on the table.

It’s Sunday, have just downloaded and backed up yesterday’s wedding and am now off to photograph a toddler at the studio. The sun’s shining and I’m really looking forward to photographing Amber, who I last photographed about 2 years ago.

My business is so varied and exciting – love it!!!!!!

Will be posting again soon so do check back for more of my ramblings.

This year is flying by and August has been an extremely busy, successful month. Having covered weddings at venues such as Boscundle Manor, St Austell, Tregenna Castle Hotel, St Ives, St Buryan Church, St Gluvias Curch, Penryn, Lands End Hotel, Porthminster Hotel, St Ives, St Michael’s Hotel, Falmouth with marquees that have been supplied by Absolute Canvas and Bodmin Marquees – lots of hours photographing weddings and many hours spent by Leon post processing all of the captured images. We have worked to within our quoted time schedules and in addition we have received orders for our designer wedding albums, so the pressure has most certainly been high but we have delivered.

Thanks to all of our brides and grooms whose weddings we have covered, it has been such a pleasure to work with you all and many many thanks for all the appreciative emails and phone calls – always good to receive feedback.

September is probably going to be even busier than August as there are many couples who have yet to make their selection of photographs for their wedding album page designs – I have a feeling we are going to receive lots of orders which when added to the number of weddings that I shall be photographing – well all I can say is it’s going to be a mega month! Leon and I look forward to it.

Just got back from a meet with Lucy and Ross whose wedding I will be photographing in September. I really felt their excitement about their wedding. We met at Tregenna Castle the sun was shining and Anna of wedding flowers in Cornwall was there as she was bringing in the flowers for the wedding taking place there today – wish I was taking the photographs. When I got back I said to Leon that there was a wedding at Tregenna Castle later today and how I wished I was taking the photographs. I have received many enquiries from couples who will be getting married at Tregenna Castle and bookings are being confirmed so I hope to photograph many weddings there in 2009.

Lucy and Ross’s wedding will be good fun, about 110 guests so plenty of photography opportunities on their wedding day. I will be staying for the wedding reception and will take them down to Porthminster beach and into St Ives between the wedding breakfast and the start of the evening wedding celebrations.

Dear Pervaiz,
I meant to write you a proper letter to thank you for being brilliant on the day of Beth’s wedding. At most weddings that I have ever been to the photographer is not too popular, but you had just the right knack to get people’s attention and we are really looking forward to seeing the photographs from tomorrow.

Comments are always appreciated and it’s good to know my antics are well received.

The weather was a bit too hot for all the chaps in morning suits, I was in a shirt – no jacket, but the way I shoot a wedding made me a little warm to say the least.

I covered this wedding up to the start of the reception and have a vary varied collection of images for Beth, Steve and their guests to view online shortly. Today has flown by and I have enjoyed every apsect without exception!

Time for a very large glass (or 2) of chilled white wine, with my wife Jacky, and a sit in the sun – fabulous!

We can provide a 2 photographer shoot but virtually all weddings are just one.

Tuesday’s wedding was a classic example of how with a little thought it’s easy for one photographer to cover the groom where he’s getting ready and then the bride as she gets ready. With all weddings I have photographed, without exception, the groom has always been ready much earlier than the bride so he can meet and greet the wedding guests and have a couple of drinks with the ushers and his best man before the guests start to arrive. These photographs were taken at different locations that were miles apart.

By introducing different styles of shooting during the wedding, a very interesting collection of images are captured that will exceed the bride and groom’s expectations. Do you need 2 photographers to photograph a wedding, would 3 photographers be even better? It’s the collection of images captured that counts plus the photographers experience – perhaps an experienced photographer who has the right attitude and stamina can do the work of 2 or 3 photographers. The photographers portfolio will be the best way to judge so every couple should always ask to view collections of photographs taken at several weddings. After the wedding it’s too late.

The weather was fabulous and after a lovely ceremony drinks and canapes were enjoyed by all on the front lawn. We went down to Porthminster beach, the Tate Gallery and then over to Godrevy and last but not least Gwithian. I remember looking out of the window at Tregenna and thinking how lucky I am to be seeing the amazing lighting and scenery that we were just about to enjoy. Marie and Guy enjoyed themselves – I hope they enjoyed the wedding as much as I did. The photograph shown was taken at Gwithian sand dunes near Hayle. Marie and Guy love south west Cornwall having enjoyed many holidays in the area. I hope that their wedding photographs will give them years of memories of their wonderful wedding in Cornwall.
